The book Mixed Farming: changing the agrarian landscape was published simultaneously with the opening of the Mixed Farming exhibition on 28 February 2004 in the Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam.
Publication Mixed Farming
The agrarian landscape is changing rapidly. Every year about ten thousand farms disappear in the Netherlands; they gradually become dilapidated or are demolished. The farms that continue to exist become bigger, mechanised, take on extra tasks or specialise. Others are converted into beauty farms, dwellings or museum farms. These changes in farming are having radical consequences for the environmental organisation of the Netherlands. Farmland is given back to nature, acquires a more differentiated look or is incorporated into the city.
Not only has farming and the landscape that goes with it changed rapidly in the last decades, but landscape photography has also undergone major developments. Mixed Farming, with four exciting essays and more than a hundred excellent photographs, offers a new perspective on both.
