artist: Peter Piller
located in: Witte de With, Witte de Withstraat 50,

German artist Peter Piller’s work is not about ‘truth’, although the fact that his collection of photos are derived from newspapers and archives would initially give that impression. Piller reclassifies archival images into new series and combinations, thereby liberating them from their original meanings and exposing strange new relationships. New meanings present themselves in photos one thought one already knew. Piller, whose work is being exhibited for the first time in the Netherlands, uncovers the absurd in regular situations.
From 19 November an exhibition dedicated to Peter Piller’s work will be held in Witte de With, a center for contemporary art. At the exhibition the visitor will be given a taste of what’s in store regarding his work in progress for the district of Hellendoorn. The latter work is being produced in collaboration with SKOR, Stichting Kunst en Openbare Ruimte, KCO (Stichting Kunst en Cultuur Overijssel (foundation)) and the Provincie Overijssel (county council of Overijssel).
