In the afternoon of Sunday 11 December 2005, the film 'The Expansion of Polder Mastenbroek' by visual artist Sjaak Langenberg and filmmaker Theo van den Aker, will be broadcast on 12 local TV stations as part of the series, Regiodoc.
In cooperation with architecture institute Aorta, Utrecht’s arthouse cinema, ’t Hoogt, is organizing an event as part of the 10 year anniversary of Leidsche Rijn ('10 jaar Leidsche Rijn'). The event will be held on 13 December 2005 and will feature two films by Sjaak Langenberg: 'De uitbreiding van polder Mastenbroek' ('The Expansion of Polder Mastenbroek') and 'Het wonder van Carnisse'. 'The Expansion of Polder Mastenbroek' puts the current issue of the relationship between the city and its rural environment into a unique perspective. Standard patterns dominate our spatial planning and urban development is taken for granted. Yet in Overijsel’s polder, Mastenbroek, which is located near to Zwolle, something completely different is taking place. Polder Mastenbroek is expanding and its inhabitants are themselves becoming project developers of their own land. They are taking control of the situation and are issuing residential quotas, thereby limiting the amount of housing construction in this green area. For once the urbanite must defend himself against the encroaching green and Zwolle’s inhabitants are being forced to relocate to Canada.
The film premiered in Zwolle on 20 November 2004 and was, during the past year, screened at the exhibition 'Polders - een theater van water' (‘Polders – a theater of water’) at the NAI (Rotterdam), at the exhibition 'Situaties/Laboratorium Flevoland' at the Museum De Paviljoens (Almere), at the Dag van het Veen (Day of the moor), at the Oerol festival, at a variety of symposia and on RTV Oost.
'The Expansion of Polder Mastenbroek' was commissioned by the local government of Overijssel.
Regiodoc
RegioDoc is the title of a new television series that will be broadcast on all of Holland’s 13 local TV stations. The series will commence on 27 November 2005 and will be shown on 13 consecutive Sunday afternoons. The documentary series will showcase Holland’s various regions.
RegioDoc will be broadcast by Omroep Fryslân, RTV Noord, RTV Drenthe, RTV oost, Radio en TV Gelderland, L1, Omroep Brabant, RTV Rijnmond, RTV West, RTV Noord-Holland Omroep Flevoland and RTV Utrecht.
