Juan Muñoz wanted to make a work of art for the Reinier van Arkel psychiatric clinic that would be related to the historical character of the institution, which was founded in the centre of Den Bosch in 1442. The work is based on a photograph from around 1930 from the clinic’s archive. In 1999 Muñoz made a group of sculptures consisting of four figures flanked by two objects. One of the figures is holding in his hands a spinning ball that unexpectedly changes appearance. Anther figure adopts an anticipatory attitude opposite the man with the ball, while the third keeps himself apart and the fourth appears to be excluded from the game. Two objects on either side of the group refer to the korfball poles in the old photograph and have buffers attached to them.
