Ter Schorre
Killaars' work is based on the tradition of color field painting and minimalism. It focuses on color and space and the symbolic value of colors and materials. By using unconventional combinations of color and material, Killaars’ work breaks down both the space and the observer’s gaze.
In her well-known installations involving multi-colored carpets, textiles and furniture, she creates sensual spaces that are imbued with ‘peace, harmony and unbridled self-indulgence and tangibility'. The conventional distance between art and its observer ceases to exist. Instead the observer is required to touch the work or lie on it and enjoy the colorful design of his/her surrounding space.
For Ter Schorre’s courtyard, Killaars designed a subtle grid of variously-sized color fields that are diagonally criss-crossed with green hedgerows of beeches that offer shelter and privacy.
