Framework / Raamwerk

A beamer projecting an empty television signal will shed light onto a number of objects that are on display in the space. This ‘snow’ that’s shown on the monitor doesn’t actually exist and isn’t intended to be produced or broadcast as such. It simply occurs when there isn’t a clear, transmittable signal. The ‘snow’ distorts the message that’s being transmitted but it also frequently seduces the viewer to surreptitiously imagine an otherworldly territory. Since 2001 Thomas Bakker has been working on a series that focuses on the disorienting effects of ‘television snow’. The projected ‘snow’ in FRAMEWORK/RAAMWERK questions the‘sculptural status of the objects on display. The viewer is forced to stop in order to observe yet, at the same time, keep a distance.
Thomas Bakker graduated from the Sint Joost Academy and the Sandberg Institute and majored in sculpture and audiovisual media. In his work, he researches the possibilities of generating meaning on one’s own.
Since 2004 and subject to certain conditions, SKOR has made de Inkijk available to artists and art organizations that will, accordingly, be responsible for the Inkijk’s program.
