Hans van Bentem created four large-scale landscapes in each of the four psychogeriatric wards of the Eduard Douwes Dekkerhuis (Eduard Douwes Dekker Home) nursing home. Spring, summer, autumn and winter are each depicted using multicolored materials and a variety of traditional techniques.

Spring is represented in mosaic form, summer is made up of a ceramic mirror, autumn is depicted in a tapestry complete with appliqu_s and winter is conceived as an illuminated sign made in stained glass. Hans van Bentem also created a work for the outpatient’s ward that consists of a man-sized stack of domestic objects. On the bottom lies a cat-shaped pillow on which a suitcase is placed. On top of this is a ball of wool with steel knitting needles followed by an aquarium containing a ceramic goldfish. On the top rests a giant stoneware cup and saucer.
