De Tuinkamer (The conservatory)
De Tuinkamer and the interior garden are an area for rest, reflection and inspiration. The walls of the conservatory were fitted with large panels covered by a woven cotton and linen fabric onto which flowers and birds were embroidered. These patterns originate from various nations and cultures and have a consolatory function. The fabric also features a pattern of branches that was woven into it and the contrast between the ivory-colored background and the umber branches is so minimal that the latter seem to spread across the material like shadows.
Family
The conservatory also features five chairs that were arranged like a family and include two straight back chairs, a large chair, a hassock and a small rocking chair. These pieces of furniture also feature the embroidered patterns.
Interior garden
In the adjacent patio three islands were laid out. Each represents one specific season including a combined winter-spring island, a summer island and an autumn island. A path was constructed along the islands and the rest of the area was covered with large pebble stones cast in concrete. The walls surrounding the patio were fitted with a wire trellis that serves to direct plant growth and bronze knots were attached to the wires in a grid work pattern. The climbing plants will eventually wind themselves around the bronze casts and will only be visible when the plants shed their leaves. The plants chosen ensure that there will be blooming all year long.
