Kalm nou maar alles komt goed (2007) (Calm down everything will be alright)
On 7 December a light art work in the shape of a cloud supported by two poles, will be placed in the historical surroundings of museumgoudA’s garden. Written in girlish handwriting, the illuminated cloud features the following text: Kalm nou maar alles komt goed (Calm down everything will be alright). It will provide comfort to everyone who sees it and everyone who needs a bit of encouragement. Indeed, who wouldn’t feel some sort of emotion?
Lily van der Stokker (1953) is known for her girlish graffiti. She uses simple handwritten texts and drawings, which she paints directly onto walls in a magnified format. Her work is notably naive, cute, colorful and almost obsessively decorative. She purposefully aims for a positive approach to art by touching people’s hearts with her work. In a direct manner and without a hint of irony, Van der Stokker adds a human touch to Gouda’s public domain. This particular work is Van der Stokker’s first venture into light art.
Kalm nou maar alles komt goed (2007) is the product of a collaboration between SKOR (Stichting Kunst en Openbare Ruimte) and the City of Gouda. Both organizations intend to work together over the next few years to showcase a collection of light art works in Gouda’s public space.
Van der Stokker’s work has been included in the collections of many (inter)national museums and was recently taken up by the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven.
From 7 December 2007 to 7 January 2008, the work will be exhibited as part of the presentation Lichtkunstwerken (light art works), which was compiled by Ranti Tjan, director of museumgoudA. With Peter Zegveld, John Körmeling, Tim Chen Chunaxi and Pipilotti Rist.
