As part of the Tijdelijk Museum Amsterdam project, SKOR invited Nicoline van Harskamp to use De Inkijk and an evening in De Balie as a platform from which to launch a new project: ‘Any other business’. This project, which will focus on politics and the public domain, is not aimed at a specific spatial situation but, rather, at verbal interaction in its many shapes and forms.
Tijdelijk Museum 2008 (Temporary Museum 2008) and Nicoline van Harskamp
The Tijdelijk Museum Amsterdam is a project by Annelys de Vet and was commissioned by Art Amsterdam and SKOR. This year marks its third installment and with its 18 participating locations, it has succeeded in combining - for a period of six days - various Amsterdam-based art institutes and artists within one unique concept.
The Tijdelijk Museum Amsterdam represents the urban parallel program of the art fair, Art Amsterdam, which features temporary exhibitions, lectures and gatherings. The project aims to create an imaginary museum by presenting the city as a floor plan of a building in which the different contemporary art institutes function as exhibition rooms. The project represents a unique gesture in Amsterdam and its accompanying pass, which visitors receive at the art fair, gives free access to all of the ‘exhibition rooms’ from 7 through 12 May. Every institute has dedicated part of their program to the Tijdelijk Museum Amsterdam: from the Stedelijk Museum CS to Smart Project Space, from Foam to the Lloyd Hotel.
In addition, SKOR has invited Nicoline van Harskamp to use De Inkijk and an evening in De Balie as a platform from which to launch a new project. This project, which will focus on politics and the public domain, is not aimed at a specific spatial situation but, rather, at verbal interaction in its many shapes and forms. As a preliminary study, the artist collected visual and audio excerpts from a variety of (political) debates featured in the Dutch media. Specifically, she searched for moments when the discussions themselves actually became a topic of discussion. Using archival footage from de Balie, she will put together and give a presentation in De Inkijk. Subsequently, she will discuss her initial findings at de Balie in front of an audience. The debate will be led by four panel chairman who are either currently or were previously employed by de Balie.
Presentation in De Inkijk: Thur 8 and Fri 9 May 11.00-5.00 pm, Sat 10 through Mon 12 May 11.00 - 7.00 pm. Location: Corner Ruysdaelkade / Stadhouderskade, Amsterdam.
