artist: Manon de Boer

PanoramicPortraits is an Internet project that was commissioned by SKOR.
It is the first in a series of research projects in which SKOR approaches artists to formulate a premise that relates to the public domain of the World Wide Web. In 2002 Manon de Boer proposed to use her own personal domain as a starting point for an analysis. Based on this crux a whole network came into existence. PanoramicPortraits grew into a collection of virtual portraits. At first the portraits were of the artist’s own friends and, eventually, they included individuals that the artist does not know personally. The portraits are composed of different kinds of biographical information, both subjective and objective in nature and vary from personal knowledge to facts that can be verified on the web.
