Inkijk # 12: Zandpad 3
08.05.2002 - 30.06.2002
Amsterdam, SKOR - de Inkijk
artist:
Kome
For his presentation in the Inkijk, Dirk Kome made a series of photographs at the local funeral home. As a theme for his photographs Kome did not actually look for death or dying. Instead he wanted to capture a space where and a profession in which waiting makes up an important part of the daily routine. This resulted in a series of ten images, mainly of interiors.
The photographs bear a tranquil atmosphere and are almost entirely devoid of any human presence. In order to keep this atmosphere in tact, the photographs were not pasted or projected on the windows. Instead the Inkijk’s door was open during the day so that visitors and passers-by could quietly have a look around the house.
Dirk Kome graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and Rijksacademie. His graduation series was published in the M Magazine supplement of the NRC-Handelsblad (newspaper).
